Matthew Weil is vice president of the Governance Program at the Bipartisan Policy Center, where he leads BPC’s work on the foundations of effective, representative government. His portfolio spans elections and voting administration, structural electoral reform, interbranch relations, and building a new American federalism. He also oversees BPC’s American Congressional Exchange and Senate Legislative Director Series, flagship engagement programs that convene members of Congress and senior Hill staff to strengthen the institutions and relationships that make bipartisan governance possible.
Weil joined BPC in 2013 and built the organization’s democracy and governance portfolio from the ground up, serving in roles of increasing responsibility before being named to lead the program in 2022. He has provided testimony to legislators, represented BPC as a spokesperson across national media including ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, C-SPAN, the BBC, the New York Times, and the Washington Post, and has designed and led high-level convenings and tabletop exercises with federal and state policymakers, election officials, and practitioners.
Prior to BPC, he served as a media affairs specialist at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, as a research and policy analyst at the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, and as a research assistant at the American Enterprise Institute.
He holds an M.S. in Government Analytics from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
