Graduated Michigan State University BA in International Relations 1992, went on to Valparaiso (IN) University School of Law and graduated 1995. Was hired directly out of law school into the Kent County Prosecutors Office where he has been employed for 31 years. Served as Chief Assistant Prosecutor from 2011-2016, and was elected Kent County Prosecutor in November of 2016. Supervises an office consisting of 37 assistant prosecuting attorney’s and a budget of $9.2 million. He has handled over 180 felony jury trials in career with prosecutor’s office.
Currently is the President of the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM), has been a member of the Board of Directors of PAAM for 8 years, and is a member of State of Michigan’s Child Death Review Team. Serves on Board of Directors Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County, Grand Rapids Boys and Girls Club, the Grand Rapids Chapter of Face Addiction Now. He is the co-chair of the Kent County Domestic Violence Action Network (DVAN) and a member of the Kent County Stop Elder Abuse Task Force. He was the 2015 winner of Call to Justice Advocacy Award given by Elder Law of Michigan.
