Matt Crane is a nationally recognized expert in election administration, operations, and security with more than 25 years of experience at the local, state, and federal levels. He serves as Executive Director of the Colorado County Clerks Association, representing 63 elected county clerks and recorders across Colorado. He also serves as a Senior Advisor to the Coalition of Election Association Leaders (CEAL) and as a consultant with the Election Security Exchange (ESX), a nonpartisan initiative dedicated to strengthening election security and public trust.
Matt has testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on threats against election officials and the growing challenges facing election administration professionals. His work focuses on strengthening election systems through practical, operationally grounded approaches to security, transparency, resilience, and public confidence.
From 2019 to 2025, Matt supported the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Election Security Initiative, working with election officials, technology providers, political parties, and government partners to improve preparedness, information sharing, and coordination around emerging threats.
Prior to his current roles, Matt spent 19 years as a Colorado election official, including six years as the elected Clerk and Recorder for Arapahoe County, one of Colorado’s largest election jurisdictions. He is widely recognized for bridging policy and real-world operations, helping election officials navigate an increasingly complex threat environment while maintaining accessible, transparent, and voter-centered election systems.
A frequent speaker and trainer, Matt works with election officials across the country on election security, resilience, crisis readiness, and strategies for sustaining public trust in the democratic process.
